About Big Points

F1 hits
different here

A podcast and a free prediction game, built by lifelong fans. We talk the big points of every race weekend, then play them out on the grid.

The origin story

It started in a spreadsheet

Dan and JT cooked up the original game years ago. No app, no website. Just a Google Sheet that Dan kept by hand, race after race, scoring every single pick manually and painfully.

The players were scattered all over. Mates across Europe, Australia and the Americas, six-plus time zones deep. Twenty to twenty-five of us a season, all arguing about the same ten finishing positions from opposite ends of the planet.

Shout-out to Dan

Who tallied every race by hand for years. The app mostly exists so he never has to touch that spreadsheet again.

Why “Big Points”?

Every race weekend, the group chat lights up about the big points. The big moments, the big calls, the big arguments over who got robbed and who got lucky. The podcast turns all that into a show. The app turns it into a scoreboard.

The big points of the race. The big points of the weekend. The big talking points on the podcast. The big fantasy points in the app.

For the data nerds

We just took it up a level

We're lifelong fans. Most of us have been watching fifteen, twenty years, since high school. And we kept hearing the same thing about every other fantasy game: not enough challenge, not enough reward for the people who actually read the timing screens.

Tom and Sam physically cannot stop talking about F1, so we built a podcast worth sitting down for. Joel turned the dreaded spreadsheet into a real app. Two big endeavours, one obsession: we took the thing that brought our group chat together and made it something other people could both play and listen to.

And it's not about money. Somewhere along the way, half the fun in sport picked up a bet slip. We wanted the other version: the buzz of calling the grid right, the bragging rights, the group chat going off, with nothing on the line but pride and the love of the sport.

So it's free to play, and it always will be. We take nothing from you. We're in no rush either, growing the community one race weekend at a time. If that sounds like your kind of obsession, jump on the waitlist.

Big Points is made by fans, for fans. We are not Formula 1, we're not affiliated with the FIA, F1, or any team, and we're not trying to rip off anyone else's fantasy game. We're just a group chat that took its Sunday arguments far too seriously. Come take yours too seriously with us.
